Identity: The Foundation of Our Purpose

Purpose is something many of us spend a lot of time searching for. We often look to careers, achievements, or personal goals to define it, but Scripture reminds us that our purpose is not something we have to invent on our own. Instead, it is something we discover when we look to Jesus.

Jesus is both the author and the source of our purpose. Through Him all things were created, and through Him all things hold together. That means our lives ultimately find their meaning in Him. When we root our purpose in Jesus, our focus begins to shift. Purpose becomes less about building our own identity and more about living in a way that reflects God’s character—loving others, walking humbly, and honoring Him in everything we do.

Following Jesus also means recognizing that purpose is lived out daily. It shows up in how we treat people, how we use our gifts, and how we respond to the opportunities God places in front of us. When our lives are centered on Christ, even ordinary moments become meaningful because they are lived for Him.

This Week’s Challenge:
Each day this week, read one of the following passages:

John 1:1; Colossians 1:16–17; 1 Corinthians 10:31; John 13:34–35; Micah 6:8; Matthew 28:18–20.

After reading, spend five minutes in silence listening for what God may be saying to you. Ask Him to show you how your purpose can be rooted more deeply in Him and how He might be inviting you to live that out in your daily life.

Prayer:
“God, help my heart to find its purpose in You. Help me to trust Your Son Jesus as the source of my purpose. Show me what You have for my life and help me to model my character after Yours. Teach me what it looks like to find purpose in You each day, and help me love others as they seek their purpose as well. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”

The Den Community exists to create spaces where any young adult or young professional can form organic community, wrestle with what they believe about Jesus, and discover how to follow Him more clearly.
